Farmer's Market Friday #3

It's starting to feel like summer in the Bay Area! I am looking forward to a great three day weekend with some grilling and chilling. I don't plan on going anywhere for Memorial Day this year, especially since I have been running around the past two weekends having fun! A couple of cold beverages while barbequing on the porch is about as far as I want to go this weekend. That being said, I won't be grilling up boring burgers and hotdogs. I plan on grilling lamb kabobs and serving them with a Kale Waldorf salad, a recipe I got from First Generation Farmer's while shopping at the farmer's market. They are still raising funds to be able to farm their entire 50 acres organically. If you would like to donate, you can head to their IndieGoGo fundraising page.

There are some definite signs of summer at the farmer's market this time of year. I picked up a great selection of vegetables, and even had $3 left over for a bouquet of flowers for myself!

The Breakdown
Green Beans $2.00 per pound (organic, Enos Family Farms)
Golden Beets $2.00 per bunch (organic, Enos Family Farms)

Yellow Swiss Chard $2.00 per bunch (First Generation Farmers)
Purple Carrots $1.50 per bunch (organic, Swank Farms)

  1. Visiting you back from Gluten Free A-Z Blog and I'm thrilled to find your link up. I've linked two recipes and am now following you on Twitter and G+.. I'm jealous of your organic vegetable prices; they are much higher in the Philadelphia area. Thanks for hosting and have a great holiday weekend.

    1. I was surprised that the drought we are having hasn't drastically raised our prices yet. We live pretty close to a lot of these farms, so we are lucky to have great variety and great prices.

    1. I love looking at your crafts! I have a whole list of my own projects that I can't seem to find time for. My toddler is at that stage where I can't hardly take any time for myself when he's awake and he's a horrible sleeper!

    2. I can totally relate! I'm really lucky my daughter LOVES to color so she will sit at the table with me happily for awhile but I do most of my projects after she is in bed.

    1. I am constantly amazed by how much $20 can get me! We still have green beans and veggies from Tuesday and I bought more today for next week's FMF! Farmer's market day makes my mornings, the farmer's are so darn nice.

  4. I bought two pounds of green beans this week. They were 25 lempiras. That works our to $1.25 total. You'd go nuts over the prices of the stuff down here! BUT, I couldn't tell you if any of it is organic. And there's no use asking, because they are probably going to tell you whatever you want to hear to make the sale. However, the use of pesticides seems to be a lot less down here in general. After all, the chemicals are probably more expensive than hiring people to pick bugs off. Have a good Memorial Day weekend!

    1. I headed to another farmer's market today and literally drove passed pick-your-own cherry orchards getting there. I hope there are still cherries on the trees when my daughter comes in from Louisiana!

    1. This is such a great time of year for finds at the market. The spring produce is still available and the summer produce is coming in early because of our warm dry winter. Pretty soon it will be the time for tomatoes, eggplants, and amazing stonefruits.

  6. Love your great photos of fresh veggies and those recipes are to drool over. We are staying close to home too. Utah is getting rained on but the sun is coming Sunday.

  11. Oh, purple carrots! I got purple potatoes one time in a CSA box and my kids tried them just because they were purple. Silly kids. Maybe purple carrots would mean my daughter would actually eat them.
